Touring Cars

Postby Tim Fry » Mon Aug 27, 2012 5:44 pm

With numbers dwindling in Touring Cars do we need to rethink what we are running?

Should we be thinking about running 17.5 blinky?

The 13.5 boosted cars are great to watch but there is no way into the class as a beginner or really moving up from minis.

This is food for thought as looking around the up and coming winter series there seems to be a sway to 17.5 or 21.5

I think we have enough classes I just think that tourers need a bit more focus to try to rebuild the numbers.

Im not totally against the GT12 but I think it dilutes the drivers we already have.

I think you might well be right, 13.5 touring is now too fast for beginners. 21.5 boosted is pretty quick when you get it right, but I hear a lot about 'blown' motors from people trying to get every ounce out of them, 17.5 blinky could well be the way to go, although I have never tried it I wouldn't mind giving it a go. Think you still need to keep 13.5 as well though for the more 'experienced' drivers ;)

Terry

This is the issue really as the hardcore racers want the faster cars as they can handle them but us mere mortals cannot.
So what do we do? We are only getting around 7 touring car drivers at the moment and we wouldn't want to dilute them into two heats. However would there be enough support to run another class?

There is really only one way to answer that tbh, and thats to try offering both classes. There is a good chance that the winter may be busier anyway, but you need to try and not clash dates with the big winter series that are on, like Carpet Wars and EWS.

For my part, I will probably carry on with 12th.

You may call me biased. But i think as bosscat said. You could most likely attract a lot of drivers introducing the gt12/mardave/supastox classes.

Hi Tim

Personally i think its a good idea to run two classes of TC 17.5 and 13.5

I aiming to come back to TC in the next few months and will be running 17.5 Orca system

Just a matter of interest will there be another "Big Meet"?

Cheers Paul

If you want a slower TC class, why not simply do blinky 13.5?

It would be somewhere between 1 to 2 laps slower than the boosted class, with less punch and top end making it more controllable. More importantly, it means no-one needing to buy new equipment to do either class.

Perhaps even use a control tyre like a Sorex 36 so the grip isn't as high. One set would probably last an entire season.
