M05 wheels & tyres

Hello all - Alexander and I have got hold of an M05 each now and so we're setting them up and have a few queries of course. One of them is to do with wheels and tyres - you all seem to use various types so it would be great to know what's allowed (width/diameter/type?) and recommended and perhaps where you buy them from please?

Many thanks

Gary

Hi Gary,

As per the Mini class rules: "Any Mini tyre on a 42mm rim (no double inserts or foam tyres)"

Do you know what tyres are fitted to the Mini you purchased off ebay?

I generally use the Sweep slick tyres, with a harder compound on the front that the rear (currently I have 40deg on front and 25deg on rear), but my Mini is set up with the rear anti-roll bar, which affects the handling. You can also get suitable tyres from Shimizu Racing and Spice. The Tamiya tyres are pretty good to start off with - the key things to work out initially is how much tyre additive to add and the amount of superglue on outer edge of the front tyres.

I get my tyres from Pit Bitz (other vendors are available!).

We can have a look at it on Sunday and best advise :)

Regards,

Dan

As Dan said....Sweeps are quite common...as too are the Pit Shimuzu.

Most people generally go 1 level harder on the front than that back on the M05. So hard up front and med in the back. Or med in the front and soft in the rear.

If you go the Sweep route then pit-bitz actually have a mixed pack you can buy. Which come pre-glued to the rims and have a pair of 33 and 25 deg tyres. (hard for front...softer for rear) - although they are out of stock ;(
Still....there are 2 of you...so makes sense to buy a 2 x 4 packs and mix and match that way. Go to the Pit-Bitz website and search for Sweep

Hope that helps.

Hi Dan & Mike - thanks very much for the useful info - I'll have a look later tonight.

My car has arrived today at last - took 11 days to get here from Thurrock! - so I'll find out what wheels were sent when I open it this evening.

I'll be on vintage 30 year old Futaba Attack 27Mhz kit on Sunday - what crystal do you use Dan? I've got two to choose from I think.

See you at the weekend.

Cheers

Gary

Good stuff! :D

I'm running Brown at the moment but I have Yellow to hand and can dig out my Blue/Green split from the Touring Car if required.

Regards,

Dan

Hi Dan - I'm on orange band 3 - 27.095 so we should be OK. Fitted vintage (large!) receiver and all is running OK. The car came with new Tamiya S-Grip tyres so I'll just use those for now on Sunday - it will be a bit of pot luck first time out!

Cheers

Gary
